Artist Background
Leona Shijaku is an emerging German singer-songwriter from frankfurt, who has been gaining attention in the music scene and on social media platforms such as spotify and TikTok amassing over a million likes and over 182.k followers with her music monthly. She first garnered public recognition in 2022 with her heartfelt performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Traitor” on “The Voice of Germany,” which earned her standing ovations from the audience.
Leona Shijaku is recognized for her raw, evocative and honest approach to music, and so when we were approached by her and her team to help create the album cover for her latest track “ON OFF”, we were honored to help out and be part of a project with her, someone that we truly know, is meant to grip the world by storm.
The Project
The goal was to capture an image that would visually represent the themes of a volatile and modern relationship. We worked with Leona to understand the look she wanted, discussing elements that would fit her style without overcomplicating the concept. She came prepared with clear ideas, which made the process efficient and kept the focus on her artistry. As a creative, its was imperative to include the artists ideas and her choice of represention. Leona Shijaku brings a unique voice and perspective to her music and since she’s an artist who values authenticity, we needed to make sure the photograph reflects that. It was for us probably the most important that the album cover aligned with her brand and connected with her audience at a an emotional level.
Results
With the vibrant cityscape of Frankfurt as our canvas, we set out for an hour-long shoot that felt more like a creative symphony than work. Each click of the shutter captured a piece of Leona’s essence, her emotions pouring through as effortlessly as her music. We explored angles, light, and mood, allowing her natural charisma to shine through while staying true to the song’s theme.
And then it happened—that moment when art meets magic. Among the stunning shots, one stood out: Leona, phone in hand, framed by the serene waters behind her. The reflection of her striking blue eyes mirrored the cool hues of the water, creating a visual metaphor for the tension and vulnerability woven into On/Off. The phone became a subtle yet powerful symbol—one that hinted at a story, a memory, a connection, or perhaps, a heartbreak.
Her team brought this image to life with final enhancements, and just weeks later, the world got to see the culmination of this creative collaboration. Seeing her fans respond to the single and its artwork has been incredibly rewarding. It was a story told in one frame, a moment that amplifies her music’s emotional impact.
Working with Leona Shijaku was an honor and a reminder of why I love what I do. Her passion and authenticity made this project unforgettable, and I can’t wait to see where her music—and our photograph—take her next.
